Our goals and values

OUR GOALS

  • Build a community of egalitarian encounters that welcomes differences, promotes reflective and open dialogue about prison, education, and justice, and foregrounds the leadership of people who have experienced incarceration.

  • Reflect collectively on educational and artistic practices in prison, and support teachers, educators, psychologists, artists, and all those who work in prisons by creating training programs and symposiums that enable dialogue between people who have experienced incarceration and people who work in prisons.

  • Challenge stereotypes about incarceration.

  • Promote collaborative research, writing, and knowledge production that respects the integrity and ownership of each person’s story.

  • Support incarcerated individuals through education and workshops, and generate opportunities and resources for people navigating life after incarceration to lead and develop social, educational, and artistic projects.

OUR VALUES

Solidarity and building long-term, strong relationships.

Horizontal and egalitarian pedagogies.

Deep listening, dialogue, and critical analysis.

We value and respect the knowledge and experience of people who have been incarcerated, and approach each person’s knowledge with the same respect.
